The School of Electricals and Electronics Engineering of Universidad del Valle is conducting the Qualification Register process towards the new positioning for the program of Doctorate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering.
According to information provided by the Ministry of National Education: "Qualified Register is a condition for the offer of programs and, therefore, corresponds to mandatory compliance requirements[...] Thus, a difference in accreditation does not respond to an autonomous decision of the institutions of the program ".
The Academic peers Natalia Gaviria Gómez, Sandra María López Muriel and Álvaro David Orjuela Cañón who met with the different directors of the University among the Professionals Liliana Arias Castillo, Vice-Rector Academic; Professor Edgar Quiroga Rubiano, Vice-Rector of Welfare; Professor Carlos Hernán González Campo, Director Office of Planning and Institutional Development; Professor Adolfo Contreras Rengifo, Postgraduate Commission Coordinator; Professor Claudia María Payán Villamizar, Director of Self-Assessment and Academic Quality; Professor Liliana Patricia Torres Victoria, Assistant Director of Self-Assessment and Academic Quality; In addition, all the directors of the Faculty of Engineering and the School of Electricals and Electronic Engineering, directors of research groups, students and graduates of the Doctorate in Engineering.
This way, academic peers can guarantee on their final report that they must submit to the Ministry of National Education that there are the skills to offer to the new PhD program.
The School of Electricals and Electronic Engineering is currently in the area of Electrical and Electronics Engineering for the Generic Doctorate in Engineering. The idea behind the creation of this new doctorate is to enter a period of transition from a generic doctorate to a specific doctorate. For the executives of the School the goal is to have the two programs coexisting, during an estimated time of 7 years.

We spoke with Professor Humberto Loaiza, Director of the School of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, who is dedicated to this part of the motivation to create this doctorate, and towards the strength that the School of Electricals Engineering and Electronics in Research has. The school has a very consolidated professional plant, twenty-five professors with a doctorate degree, eight research groups and several important publications that show the solidity of the doctoral research work carried out by the School.
This new Academic Program of Doctorate in Electrical and Electronic Engineering is an opportunity to increase visibility for the Institution, the Faculty of Engineering and the PPIEE-Graduate Program in Electricals and Electronic Engineering, in terms of the offer of Postgraduate Programs. In addition to the great academic and labor impact they have, the business sector can also better identify the investigative capacities of the graduates of the Doctorate in Electricals and Electronics Engineering at Universidad del Valle.
This new PhD program has three lines of emphasis in Electricals, Electronics and Automation, which are the product of the strengths of the research groups of the School. It will be addressed to all electrical, electronic, mechanical engineers, among other related professions.
The expectation of the School of Electricals and Electronic Engineering is that the sea issued for the next semester, the Decree in which the Ministry of National Education approve the implementation of the Doctorate in Electrical and Electronics Engineering; and the purpose is to be able to register the first cohort in January 2018.
